New Studio – We are working towards new studios

Beech House Studio is in the progress of building a new home and studio. We will be opening our doors we hope in 2017, allowing customers to come along and buy direct. It has been a long time since I have posted, a good place to follow our building progress is https://www.instagram.com/beechhousestudio/ or by https://www.facebook.com/BeechHouseStudio/  . Mark is my wonderful builder (also my wonderful husband), I help but my building skills are pretty limited, rope is much more my medium. We are building a PassiveHouse and here are two small videos that show our progress so far. The Beech House – Part 1 – The Forms/Insulation Beech House Studio – Part 2 – The...

Have you heard of the book? Our true Story – Life Boat

“Life Boat” is the true story written by Mark Harwood my husband of our journey before we returned to Canada over 10 years ago. We have been extremely pleased with the feedback and success of the book. Readers have loved it. Finding it a book worth buying copies for and sharing with their friends. We sell the books at the summer shows and it has been rewarding to meet readers who come by to tell us how much they have enjoyed their read. What is all the fuss? Mark, Karen and the Arab, a 100-year-old leaking lifeboat, battle October gales around the Coast of England, find themselves blocked in by...

Rosseau Farmers’ Market

Beech House Studio (Formerly KarensRopeWork) at Rosseau Farmers' Market)

Farmers’ Markets are a great place in the summer in Muskoka to get fresh produce and to take a look at local crafts. You can find them in most of the local towns. Mark & I have Mark’s handcrafted wooden boats (HarwoodWaterCraft) and my ropework to at Rosseau Farmers’ Market and Gravenhurst Farmers’ Market for years now. It is a great community of vendors and vistors alike. We come home with all our fresh produce for the summer. This year we have taken the decision not to go to Gravenhurst Farmers’ Market as Mark is concentrating on building, but we will be found at Rosseau Farmers’ Market every Friday 9am-2pm...

Wedding Photo Shoot

Sometimes it can be difficult to find the space to take the photos I need to take photos. I recently was offered the use of a Muskoka Room to take photos of my bunting for my wedding shop. I had a fun time, I took over 400 photos of bunting/garlands for future listings and with a little help from Mark stringing it across the ceiling of this lovely room took this great shot and this is only a portion of the bunting I have in stock! I love this photo. These can have anything written on them so you can always contact me if you have any questions....

Tiebacks

Nautical tiebacks are a popular use of rope. I make them with 1/4 inch  sisal rope , brown manila, off white cotton and navy blue cotton. Last year I listed them in navy blue cotton rope1/2 inch and in brown manila rope (off white cotton available on request). All my tiebacks and look great doubled up with matching finials. My new design was the tieback with two knots at either end. The tieback uses the weight of the knots to remain tied. I love this new design. Something a little different! I have these in my home. I have a log cabin and so the manila and sisal are best for...
